Full circle at Winnipeg Folk Festival 2018.

Every year as I return from breezy festival fields to my warm urban apartment, I bring home with me a sense of renewal.

Behind-the-scenes video footage from the Winnipeg Folk Festival.

Being a photographer for the Winnipeg Folk Festival I am lucky to be able to witness a lot of wonderful musical moments each year, and 2016 was no exception.  Though my visual mindset is usually focused on capturing these moments through still photography, since being added to the festival’s social media team I also periodically switch gears and capture raw, behind-the-scenes videos of these sorts of folk fest moments.

I have just finished…

Postcard from the Winnipeg Folk Festival 2015

Another year, another Winnipeg Folk Festival: while this year was no different in its delivery of wonderful music through intimate workshops and big stage sound, the festival went back to its original 4-day format (previously five days).  Even with the shorter festival, it was packed with great memories and experiences – and as a festival photographer, I gathered a fair number of photos capturing it all!  Unfortunately, my reminiscing has had to be cut short…

Hey Daniel. I’ll probably wait to post the full photoessay until spring time at this point; people are busy with things right at this time of year (myself included) and it would be a nice trip down memory lane to get people excited for the 2016 festival.

What a lovely synopsis of one person’s experience of Folk Fest. I’m glad I got to share a few of those moments with you. My favourite shot… the rubber boots on stage, the sound booth and Pope’s Hill at night. Elephant Revival was also my favourite discovery for this year’s fest.ReplyCancel
