Summer tends to be a season that lures us out of the holes we disappear into come winter time. A flurry of festivals start up in middle of June and as soon as one ends another starts right up, all summer long. Therefore: summer = festival season. But with the waning light the season is slipping away and soon the last festival will be fested. So let’s enjoy these fleeting moments wholeheartedly.

It is winter on the prairie and the holiday season is just around the corner. This is a scene not too uncommon along the backroads of Manitoba. Old farm homesteads like this lie abandoned all over the province. People are starting to demolish them for safety reasons but a few still stand sentinel on prairie fields.
