Story Every year as I return from breezy festival fields to my warm urban apartment, I bring home with me a sense of renewal.
The official vision of the Winnipeg Folk Festival is to cultivate experiences of discovery and learning through the celebration of people and music; however, a quieter goal that has been shared with me over these past few years is that of creating a safe space in a troubled world.

Story Another year, another festival.
Over the years, the Winnipeg Folk Festival has become a point of confluence for the people in my circles. Despite life having taken us in so many directions - detours rooting from children, careers, and the plethora of other catalysts for change - we always come back together for this one weekend every year. We return not just the location, but a safe place for expression, creativity, and being.

Story The power of a musical album that succeeds at evoking something deep within is a beautiful thing, yet a raw live performance has a living power to it that can’t be recorded. A show is not a one way thing, but rather a lively conversation between an artist and a crowd that has potential to go in beautifully unpredictable directions.
Story Ah, the Winnipeg Folk Festival: a gathering around music, art, and community that pops up in a prairie field for five days every year. Exactly two weeks from today the 2016 festival begins with the Crooked Brothers kicking things off on the main stage. Spending time with good friends (both old and new), discovering new music, and happening by chance upon unexpected joys…I’m looking forward to another year barefoot in these fields as an official festival photographer.

Story The 41st Winnipeg Folk Festival has come and gone. Once again, an empty field in Bird’s Hill Park was turned into a vibrant community. We came and we went, but forever we will have the memories. Every year is different but I always leave feeling the same: my head full of music and my heart full of love.

Story This year marked the 40th anniversary of the Winnipeg Folk Festival. Every year since 1974, people have flocked to the fields of Bird’s Hill Park just north of the city and erected a temporary town of tents, stages, and all the amenities one might need to enjoy the occasion. The festival has grown a lot, but the fundamentals remain the same: it is all about the people and the music.
